Purple Poppy Day: Military animal heroes remembered
Hi neighbours, people and animals will wear a purple poppy at Whenuapai Air Base today to commemorate the furred and feathered creatures who served in conflict.
Purple Poppy Day, recognised internationally on February 24, acknowledges service animals, particularly those that gave their lives in conflict.
It is estimated more than eight million animals died during World War I alone.
