Talking turkey on East FM, this Saturday arvo from 3pm...
Check these guys out! It’s Thanks Giving. Turkey The Bird – what a name for a band – what a look – and Auckland has the good fortune to be able to see them this Saturday, June 11, at the Ministry of Folk in Mt Eden.
It’s also our good fortune that we’ll be talking with Andre Manella of the band at 4pm on this Saturday’s She’ll Be Right Show with PJ Taylor, 3-7pm (NZ time) on East FM.
The three-piece Turkey the Bird are coming up to Auckland from New Plymouth for the Ministry of Folk gig to feature tracks from their album – Turkey the Bird – WTF (when turkeys fly).
It’s excellent – roots, Celtic, country, folk and bluegrass – with a good dose of reality, harmony and sense of humour. Music from the soul. Breezy, uplifting, fun.
And they all play plenty of instruments: Andre Manella on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, percussion; Adrian Whelan on vocals, guitar, mandolin, bass, spoons, percussion; and Sol Bear Coulton on vocals, banjo, slide guitar, percussion.
Turkey the Bird, and Hoop, play the Ministry of Folk, Auckland Guide Centre, 132 Grange Road, Mt Eden, doors 7pm, on Saturday, June 11. Tickets at: www.undertheradar.co.nz...
You can find Turkey the Bird on Facebook and their website is turkeythebird.co.nz. There are videos in all the usual net locations.
East FM is East Auckland’s vibrant community-powered public service radio station, on 88.1FM and 107.1FM on local frequencies, nationally and globally at www.eastfm.nz... and on app iHeart Radio.
She’ll Be Right - it’s all about the vibe; it’s all about the groove. And this Saturday we’re talking turkey (like most weeks). – PJ
