Reiki (Rey-key) is a hands-on healing technique in which the Reiki practitioner reconnects to the Universal Energy (of which we all are a part) and channels it to a person. Using intention and attention, the Universal Energy flows through him to the receiver to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy.
Reiki energy leads to
-Feelings of relaxation
-Release of stress and anxiety, thus calming upset feelings
-Lowering of blood pressure
-Diminished side effects of chemotherapy treatments
-Decrease in the time to heal from injuries or surgery
-Creating a feeling of well-being of the body, mind and spirit
-Maintenance of hormonal balance
-Boost and balance of energy levels
-Enhanced immune system
-Mental clarity in difficult situations
-Improvement in sleep patterns
-Better understanding of your body and your emotions
-Creation of a meditative state
-Increased intuition
-Help in resolving emotional issues
-Expansion in spiritual awareness
If you connect to Reiki energy and would like to learn how to heal yourself and others at the physical, mental and emotional levels, contact me at jyotisondhi@lightingthelampwithin.com for Level One energy exchange and requirements.

We’re also super excited about our new dancing venue in Howick, The Lounge (186 Wellington Street, Howick, Auckland)! If you have attended some of their events in the past, you already know that the venue is more than fitting for Dance Yourself Happy. Linda will make sure water will be available if yours runs out, but the session is strictly alcohol-free, just like before, and The Lounge bar & kitchen will be closed on the night.
Thank you Howick Local Board for deciding to fund Dance Yourself Happy in 2022, and thank you to Manukau Council East of Social Services (MECOSS) and especially Lindsay Upton for continued support.
Come along on 26 July 2022 at 7pm for an hour of exercise in disguise. Your body and soul will thank you :)

FAQ
What is Dance Yourself Happy?
If you love dancing to electronic dance music and hits or you’re feeling a bit blue or just plain sick of being cooped up at home, come to Dance Yourself Happy. Let the dance tunes of 80s, 90s, 00s & beyond work up a sweat while enjoying an hour of healthy me-time and exercise in disguise. There is no choreography to learn and no instructor, just drop in for a casual dance session with like-minded people. Your body and soul will thank you!
Does it cost to get in?
No, it’s free to attend – thanks to funding from Auckland Council and Howick Local Board.
Is this 'dancing in the dark'?
The lighting is minimised for the mood, or there might be some disco lights – we’ll see what The Lounge can do for us and what feels right. You will be joined by like-minded individuals in a non-judgemental setting.
What kind of music can I expect?
We’ll be dancing to electronic dance music and hits from 80s, 90s, 00s and today. Chart toppers, floor-bangers, house, synthpop, techno, Euro-disco, dance-pop, mashups, some pop & rock, the occasional touch of Latin, and much more for a groovy concoction. There won't be any ballroom, waltz, tango and that type of 'traditional' music.
What should I wear & bring?
Wear anything you feel comfortable in, be it track pants, leggings or jeans, but no high heels, please. And bring a water bottle. Water is also supplied by The Lounge in case you forget yours. Do not bring valuables.
Can I bring my kids along?
Kids over 12 are ok to come along, as long as they are under your supervision at all times.
I’ve been to The Lounge before. Can I buy a drink or food there?
No, Dance Yourself Happy is strictly an alcohol-free event and The Lounge bar & kitchen will be closed. Water is available though.
Do I need a Covid-19 vaccine pass to enter?
No, but we of course adhere to the changing requirements set by the government. Please respect other dancers' personal space and do stay at home if you are feeling unwell.
Do I need to wear a mask?
No. Should the situation change due to government requirement, we may pause the sessions because dancing with a mask on is not much fun.

Howick RSA life members respectively, Eric Wilson, a World War II veteran aged 103; and Colin Smith, in his mid-80s, originally of Australia and long-time RSA volunteer executive committee member and vice-president.
It was always a pleasure to be with them, usually at the Wellington Street clubrooms on a bustling Friday night.
There they’d be, at Eric’s table – Eric, Colin and Bev, Ben, Ray and Fay, Ken, Peter, and many more. The ladies at the raffles table just next door.
They always had the welfare of the Howick RSA in mind. That was the subject of most of the conversation.
Eric would say: “I’ll do anything for this club.” He did, in spades, forking our happily for raffles, and he loved his beers and his meals and the music, especially piano. He won his fair share of raffles that is for sure.
As most endure in their golden years, Eric had his health issues but soldiered on. He was a legend at age-carer Gulf Views in Selwyn Road, disciplined to his army core, carrying out his physical exercises every morning and always encouraging other residents and helping with tasks. He was amazing, so positive and always looking forward, especially during this two-year Covid period.
He loved the company of people – family, of which there are many and they all loved him so much, with great respect. You saw it at each birthday.
We will all remember fondly, Eric, at 100, and in his late-90s, leading the Howick RSA parade at Anzac Day down off Stockade Hill, down Picton Street and then right around the long block of the Howick Village back to the clubrooms. That was legendary.
Eric served as a driver in the New Zealand Army in the Second World War, seeing plenty of action and adventure in Greece, Crete (where he was on one of the last vessels to evacuate), Syria, Egypt and Italy.
Colin Smith was a tireless worker for the Howick RSA, always determined and committed to seeing affairs were in order. Inspiring dedication.
He also had a very funny sense of humour, and a character in his delivery and laughter. We could be talking about the RSA and the world in general, and being a good Sydneysider, he’d also have one eye on the rugby league.
Colin ran the Howick RSA’s Poppy Day campaign with distinction. It’s a job requiring lots of hours of organisation and work and Colin always delivered a professional volunteer operation that generated considerable revenue for the RSA Welfare fund for veterans.
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
Eric Wilson and Colin Smith were Howick legends.
Our sincere condolences and love to Eric’s family – Noelene Hugh and all the relatives; and to Beverly Smith and her and Colin’s family. – Phil and Janine

We’ll be chatting with Greg at 4pm, and playing tracks from his extensive collection of recordings throughout the show, as the tour starts in Auckland this week.
The band playing with the national treasure is exceptional – long-time drummer and collaborating producer Wayne Bell, Ted Brown who has come down with his guitar from Los Angeles with Greg, Mark Hughes on bass, and Ben King on guitar.
We like to claim there’s a slice of East Auckland in Ted’s make-up, as he first learned guitar at Edgewater College.
The Greg Johnson tour dates in Auckland are Victoria Theatre, Devonport, July 1 (sold out); Tuning Fork, Downtown, July 2; and Paraoa Brewing, Whangaparaoa, July 3.
The She’ll Be Right Show with PJ beams out of East FM, East Auckland’s community-powered public service radio station, on local frequencies 88.1FM and 107.1FM, nationally and globally at www.eastfm.nz... and on app iHeart Radio.
The She’ll Be Right Show – it’s all about the vibe; it’s all about the groove. And this Saturday it’s Greg Johnson Day. As it should be. Happy Matariki – PJ
