INTENSIFICATION - 2 million extra dwellings in AUCKLAND!

Peter from Cockle Bay

People be aware that Auckland Council proposes a replacement plan change to facilitate an additional 2 million houses (meaning an extra 6 million people!!!)
And all this when the AUP already caters for 900k more dwellings which to my mind is already way over the top.

One travesty, among many, is the treatment of minor transport routes e.g. Litten Road, Sandspit Road, Meadowlands Drive etc. as major transport corridors which will allow buildings of at least 6 Storeys

To add insult to injury there will be more MHS and less SHZ meaning more 3 X 3 storied mushrooms next door. And yes, more MHU as well
In quick summary:
1. Terrace Housing and Apartments (THAB) along all of Litten Road; the north – south stretch of Sandspit Road, and Meadowlands and Millhouse Drives.
2. Increases in the Mixed House Urban and Mixed House Suburban zones in our area. Both zones allow for more intense housing development.
3. Significant reductions in the Single House Zone (SHZ)
4. Greater intensification for the Howick Village area.

Saturday is one of the last opportunities for your local Councillor Maurice Williamson to receive feedback from the good folk of the Howick Ward on their thoughts about this surreptitious move to change the face of Howick (and all Auckland) forever.

Join HRRA (Howick Ratepayers and Residents Association) for their AGM and Meet the Candidates (Councillors and Mayoral) event where, among many other things, this Intensification sleight of hand will be exposed by Councillor Williamson. He wants to hear your views before he and fellow Councillors vote on, one of the most important issues in Howick’s and Auckland’s history.

The meetings start promptly at 1:30pm Saturday 30 August at the Howick Bowling Club 33 Selwyn Road. Refreshments from 1:00pm.

All welcome

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
