Rhythm n’ blues n’ soul music, and a chat with Howick Little Theatre cast members, feature on today’s She’ll Be Right on Saturdays Show with PJ Taylor, midday to 4pm (NZ time) on East FM.
It’s been a while since we’ve done a free-play show, so we’re spinning old favourites, and talking at 1pm with Mark Bishop and Anna Baird, cast members of the Howick Little Theatre’s last production for 2023, Old Love, by comic playwright Norm Foster.
It’s described as ‘a timeless comedy about hope, broken hearts, rekindled romance, and how it’s never too late to take a second chance on love’.
Bud Mitchell, portrayed by Mark Bishop, is smitten with Molly Graham from the first time he meets her. Molly, played by Anna Baird, barely notices him.
And the trouble is, they’re both already married at the time. Nearly three decades later, the now-divorced Bud discovers that Molly’s husband has died, so he makes up his mind to finally convince her that they belong together.
Tracey Holdsworth is thrilled to be directing Old Love: “I have to admit, I’m a bit of a hopeless romantic, so the chance to direct such a wonderful romantic comedy about hope and the quest for love was something I jumped at.”

The HLT season of Old Love runs from November 11 to December 2, with tickets available at www.hlt.nz... or iTICKET on phone 09 361 1000.

East FM is East Auckland’s fair-dinkum community-powered public service radio station, on 88.1FM and 107.1FM on local frequencies, nationally and globally at www.eastfm.nz... and on app iHeart Radio.
She’ll Be Right - it’s all about the vibe; it’s all about the groove. – PJ

This is my mate Johnny Andrews – Johnny be good. Mancunian in Howick. He produces the brilliant My Movie DNA podcast about the cinematic experience and it was a real pleasure to be his guest.

Here’s Johnny post: The new episode of My Movie DNA is now available with EAST FM 88.1 107.1 DJ, quizmaster and journalist Phil Taylor. Lots of music chat in this one as we cover nearly every music-related film under the sun!

Listen now 🎧: linktr.ee...

G’day Johnny, thanks, bro. I sure did most of the talking, and deliberately (for fun) guided it around many different movie memories, randomly. You’re a great host, providing a platform for people to tell stories. Just what movies do.

Hopefully, listeners will enjoy recollections of film history culture in a (mostly) Auckland and New Zealand context.
Yes, I rattled off plenty of topics and movie star names, but here’s the leftover scribblings from the note paper…

Die Hard (saw in Karachi), Hard Day’s Night, Help! The Dambusters, The Battle of Britain, Dean Martin and Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Nighy, Robert Duvall, Bobby De Niro, Jack Lemon, Walter Matthau, The Thing, Ewan McGregor, Hugo Weaving, Terence Stamp, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Glenda Jackson, Dame Judie Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Sammy David Junior, Laurel and Hardy… - PJ
