Fourteen Auckland mountains have been closed to the public to ward off blazes fuelled by fireworks.

The maunga (mountains) administered by the Tupuna Maunga Authority are closed to the public this week from 7.30 pm until November 8.

The decision to ban evening access follows fires at Mt Wellington and Mt Eden on Guy Fawkes night last year.

Fireworks sparked a blaze which tore through the crater of Mangere Mountain in December last year and another fire on Mt Wellington in April.

Last month another blaze caused by a group of youths playing with fireworks ripped through the lower slopes of Mt Wellington.

The following mountains will be closed: Wiri, One Tree Hill, Mount Wellington, Mount Eden, North Head, Mount Albert, Mount Hobson, Pigeon Mountain, Mount Richmond, Mount Roskill, Mount St John, Mount Victoria, Mangere Mountain, Big King.

Do you agree with the closures?

Are you planning to celebrate Guy Fawkes tomorrow night?

From our first meeting with you to discuss the sale of our much loved home, your professionalism and enthusiasm for the marketing campaign was apparent. Your knowledge of the local area, and the skills you brought to achieve such a successful outcome on auction day, were exceptional. Weekly reports received from the open homes, as well as updates from private viewings meant we were always 'kept in the frame'. Your understanding and courteous attitude towards our personal requirements were second-to-none, and were very much appreciated. Thank you both for your efforts in achieving such a successful outcome."
