The New Zealand Transport Agency is urging more than 3700 car owners to get their warrants of fitness rechecked following the suspension of an Auckland certifier Westland Mechanical and Tyre.

The agency said the business traded as Westland Automotive and Tyre in Henderson and its sole director and shareholder Akram Zakeri has also been suspended as a vehicle inspector.

The action came after concerns about his failure to check some aspects of vehicles during warrant of fitness (WOF) assessments, such as brakes, seatbelts, steering and exhaust systems. Read more

Over-charged rubbish tags

Rumiko from Henderson

Just now, I bought 2 orange rubbish tags and a 1 litre milk from Gull on Swanson Road. I realized they charged me $4.50 per tag. Normally, I pay only $3.80 per tag from the supermarket. $3.80 is already a high price and Gull charged me 70c more for each tag. Normally, I pay only $3.80 per tag from the supermarket. $3.80 is already a high price and Gull charged me 70c more for each tag. So I went back to the store and asked for a refund for one tag only as I need one for tomorrow. However, they refused to refund me. I'm wondering if this is allowed or if it is okay to sell council tags for more than $3.80? I feel like I have been ripped off.
