Drownings, water-related incidents and road fatalities have marred the first few weeks of 2023.
Ahead of Auckland Anniversary and Waitangi weekends, we have an important message for Aucklanders: take care and come home safely to your whānau.

Already ferries have been cancelled, there are power outages and drivers are being cautioned about driving in these conditions. From 3pm, a severe thunderstorm watch is in place, as well as a strong wind watch until 8pm on Friday night.
Here's what you need to know:
- All Pine Harbour ferry services have now been cancelled until further notice, due to weather conditions. The 7am, 8am & 9am Pine Harbour to Auckland services will be replaced by Bus.
- Areas of North Auckland around Te Arai are without power as of 6.20am on Friday. Some areas near the Auckland border have had power cuts since at least 3am on Friday.
- Drivers heading over the Auckland Harbour Bridge advised by Waka Kotahi NZTA to watch out for strong gusts and wind. Commuters should drive to the conditions, look out for full bridge closures, and stay within their lane while travelling across the bridge. High-sided vehicles and motorcyclists should avoid the Harbour Bridge and use the Western Ring Route on State Highways 16 and 18.
Keep up to date with weather warnings on the MetService website and be cautious if travelling this Auckland Anniversary weekend.

In celebration of the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit, the Oriental Brush Calligraphers mainly from Korea are holding their exhibition at MAC this year.
MAIN GALLERY: Auckland Calligraphers' group, Yeon Hyang Hoe, proudly display their 19th exhibition of brush artworks to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit, 2023. Yeon Hyang Hoe aims to promote Korean culture and calligraphy to reach out to the wider community in Aotearoa. During this annual, much-anticipated display, gallery visitors can use traditional materials to write inspirational phrases or poems.
HEWSON GALLERY: Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to view a special display of rare decorative Korean Calligraphy folding walls from a personal collection belonging to well-respected Korean Calligraphy tutor Seung-jae Yu. Some of these scrolls date back to the 19th century and provide a glimpse of the clash between conservatism and the enlightenment group facing the challenging social, political and cultural wave from the West.
You are welcome to come and meet the artists at the opening event on 28 Jan at 2:00pm.

A full life for Helen is one that is surrounded by family. When she first moved to the village, Helen’s husband John was being cared for elsewhere. Now that he is living at the same village, it brings Helen and her family so much happiness and reassurance.
“All the family cried when he moved in. They were so happy because it was such a beautiful thing to have him close by.”

Left rear door in particular has a shallow dent and some scratches (see photo for full disclosure). Driver's side mirror also has peeling paint (see photo). Interior also some wear but basically sound. Mechanically, car is in excellent condition, and has a good service record with no problems at all except that the original hybrid battery failed after 15 years, and was replaced in July 2022. I have the receipt for the new battery available. The replacement should last another 10 years. Replacement battery alone costs $3000+, so you get that in effect at a bargain price. Available last day of this month (January).
Price: $4,900
