Help needed! Kelmarna Redevelopment Stage 1 starts next week

Adrian Roche from

The Creation of The Village Green

After almost a year of consultation and design work with Carl Pickens, Landscape Architect, the first Kelmarna Redevelopment project begins and we are very very excited! With assistance from Waitemata Local Board and a very generous local resident and longtime supporter of the Gardens, we will start drainage and levelling work on Monday November 21st. The end picture will be a spatious two tiered picnic and community area under the shade of our Macrocarpa, with clear line of sight across the paddocks to Herne Bay - The Village Green!

But to get there we need some hard work from generous volunteers!
We need four or five volunteers on each of Tuesday November 22 and Wednesday November 23 to help back fill drainage trenches, barrow gravel and barrow topsoil. We will also need some the following week, but the day will depend on weather and progress. There will be a delicious wholesome lunch provided for all helpers!

Please email Guy at Kelmarnagardens@gmail.com if you can help with barrowing, lunch preparation or any other tasks on:

- Tuesday November 22; or

- Wednesday November 23; or

- the following week, day to be determined (apologies for the imprecision but it is out of our control).

We also need the following materials so if anyone has any ideas for sourcing them through sponsorship or at a discounted rate please get in touch:
Bugle head screws,
Bedding sand,
Wide joint paving grout,
100x75mm H4 posts,
GAP 7 basecourse,
Clean screened topsoil and/or lawn mix.

All offers of help gratefully received!

Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.

While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.

And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
