Did you know this special group of SPCA fundraisers have fundraised over $430,000 for SPCA?

Members of SPCA Dog Squad, North Shore Supporters, and the North Shore Dog Squad have spent the last 30 years supporting SPCA by fundraising, fostering and adopting, and began back when the SPCA only had minimal staff and very limited resources.

The Dog Squad is full of four-legged members too, including dalmatians, newfoundlands, spaniels, labradors, and a very special ex-SPCA three-legged dog called Lucy. Most of their fundraising work includes regular barbeques out on the streets with their dogs, so they are DESPERATELY searching for new members with great BBQ skills!

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Dog Squad, please email debbie.madden@spca.nz.

Our SPCA fundraisers like the Dog Squad are more than just people on the streets. They are the backbone of the organisation, and the reason why thousands of animals receive a second chance at a better life. Next time you see them around, stop and share your story. Or better yet... COME AND JOIN THEM! <3

The Auckland Council announced on October 19 it was banning smoking at more than 800 cafes, restaurants and bars that use its licensed areas for al fresco dining and drinking. The ban would come into effect as owners renew their licences. By December 31, 2019, all eateries with outdoor dining areas will have the rule in place.

Under the new policy, smoking is also banned at parks, beaches, reserves and other council-owned properties.

So what are your thoughts on the ban? How will it affect you or your business? Let us know your thoughts in the replies below!

Eight out of every 10 members of midwives' union MERAS who are employed by DHBs voted in the ballot. Of those, 90 percent opted to reject the DHBs' offer. From Wednesday, midwives across New Zealand will hand in their notice informing employees of planned two-hour work stoppages every day on every shift over a two-week period from November 22 to December 5. Industrial co-leader Jill Ovens says the idea is to maximise disruption for the DHBs while minimising the effect on women and their babies.
