Yet more chip-sealed roads...
More roads are set to be downgraded soon as part of Auckland Transport's policy of resealing suburban roads that carry less than 10,000 vehicles per day to chip seal 🙁
The following roads (or portions of roads) will be resealed as chip seal during the period of Monday 29 March to Wednesday 7 April:
* Exmouth Road, Northcote (extension only)
* Jacaranda Avenue, Beach Haven
* Levesque Street, Birkdale
* Mahara Avenue, Birkenhead
* Saffron Street, Birkdale
* Sea Vista Avenue, Beach Haven
Please see the attached maps for the exact portions of road to be chip sealed.
Work will take approx 3-5 days at each site. Working hours are 7am-7pm, Monday-Saturday.
One day prior to work starting, cones and no parking signs will be placed along the site and remain in place until work is complete.
From Auckland Transport: "Road resealing works involves laying a new chip seal layer on the existing road surface, sweeping the excess chip, and installing new line marking to the finished road surface.
Excess chip will be swept within 2 working days of sealing and will be followed by line marking. Please park off street and away from the work area until these works are completed.
Drivers please be advised that excessive speed, sharp turns, and heavy braking can damage the new surface.
Pedestrians are asked to inspect/remove their footwear to avoid tracking emulsion or chip into vehicles or dwellings. Please keep young children and animals well supervised and clear of the work area.
For more information please contact Auckland Transport on 09 355 3553."

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
60% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.7% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.3% ... It is complicated
