You’re accustomed to that sticky window and the drippy tap, and it’s years since you last thought about that missing grout in the bathroom. But potential buyers are going to be your biggest critics, says Pero, and they’ll be totting up these items and wondering how much it’s going to cost to repair them all.

I had the fortune to need to take my 9 year old son to Middlemore's Kids First at 2 am on Monday morning.

Fortunate in that Kids First is staffed by amazing doctors and nurses who are brilliant, empathetic, efficient, and above all, bang on with their diagnosis and treatment.

As I've been putting up positive comments around the net, I find it ironic and disturbing that almost all the negative comments came from people who use the ED at Middlemore as a doctor and then cry about it when they're left to stew for 6-7 hours.

Hospitals are for emergencies and even under the constraints of staffing levels, outdated buildings and some serious security issues, Middlemore seems to perform at world-class level.

If you're just sick and need a doctor, for god's sake, go to a doctor - leave this magnificent, multicultural teams of heroes to carry on doing the fantastic job they do, be at it 10 am or in the middle of the night.

Legends! Thank you all.

Students inspire environmental design

Communications Team from Auckland Council

The students picked up their pencils and Play-Doh and sketched and sculpted designs of how they would like their restored reserve to look. The designs were largely inspired by nature and the surrounding landscape and the native species the Healthy Waters team was trying to attract back.

MECOSS is putting out a call to the Manukau East community, for contributions of Christmas cards penned with hand written messages.
A collection drop-box will be set up in the foyer of the All Saints’ Community Centre, 30 Cook Street, Howick, every day between 8:00am and 4:00pm from Monday, 5 November until Friday, 7 December.
Then before Christmas, the 'Sending Love' charity will distribute the cards you've crafted, to people in our community who’re elderly and living alone, or who're confined to an age-care facility.

Hi neighbours,

Have you heard this trick before? A handy hack on how to open OXO cubes is causing a stir online, as it seems many of us have been doing it all wrong.

Forget crumbling up the cube after opening the silver foil packaging - it seems that packaging was actually designed to be flattened. To read more click here.

Simply open up the flaps on the side, flatten them out and then crumble the cube inside the package, turning it into a powder that's a heck of a lot easier to add to your dish.

Did you know this handy trick? Have you been opening the cubes the wrong way your whole life like the rest of us? Will this make cooking for your family a little easier? Share your thoughts in the replies below!

International Day of Older Persons is a day to celebrate all older people – to highlight the value of all older people and to promote dignity and respect. The 2018 international theme is “Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions“.

This year Age Concern New Zealand want all New Zealanders to sign up as Age Concern Dignity Champions and stand up for the human rights of older Kiwis.

“There is no excuse for elder abuse, says Stephanie Clare, Age Concern New Zealand Chief Executive. I am appalled that we are still having to deal with cases each day where older people are taken advantage of.

“Just because someone is older it doesn’t mean they are less valuable, have less purpose or should lose basic human rights, the right to make their own choices and respect from those around them.

“Of the cases we see, 75% of alleged abusers are family members, either adult children or partners of adult children and that needs to stop!

“So come on Kiwis we all have a part to play. You can take a stand against ageism and join me by signing up today!” says Stephanie.

An Age Concern Dignity Champion pledges to:
• Reject stereotypes and focus on the uniqueness of every individual
• Speak up when they hear people speaking negatively about growing old
• Have the courage to question practices they feel are disrespectful to older people
• Not patronise older people
• Be patient, polite and friendly
• Have zero tolerance for abuse or neglect
• Build relationships – they combat isolation and loneliness by getting to know the older people in their lives.
