My child wanted the blue lollipop, not the red one. Then β the tears, the screams, the looks from strangers. π
For a moment, I felt my own body tense β embarrassed, frustrated, helpless.
Then I took a deep breath. π¬οΈ
I knelt down and whispered, βYouβre safe. I can see youβre really upset.β
He kept crying⦠but softer. His little body started to melt in my arms.
In that moment, I realised: he wasnβt trying to make a scene β he was overwhelmed.
And what he needed most wasnβt control or correction β it was connection. π€
Later, we talked about it. We named the feelings, and he told me, βI was mad because I really wanted that blue one.β Simple words, but powerful honesty.
Parenting isnβt about perfection. Itβs about staying calm enough to show our children what safety feels like β even when the world is watching. π±
