Staying Calm, Being Proactive

Being constantly fearful creates prolonged exposure to stress hormones, which weakens our immune systems and make us more vulnerable to the very thing we are stressed about. A more proactive approach is to nourish our bodies with hydration, healthy food, exercise, sleep, and fresh air to support our immune systems; be extra vigilant with hygiene to protect ourselves and others; and be aware of the situation without being constantly focussed on it 24/7. We need to give ourselves time to de-stress instead of constantly being in distress. The Coronavirus will not last forever; nothing does. We can choose to pull together as a community, make sure everyone’s needs are met (especially our more vulnerable community members), and remember we are all in this together. Our strength lies in responding with compassion, rather than reacting with fear.

URGENT!

Animals need you! We currently have 921 animals looking for a home across the country. During these unsettling times we want to ensure adoptions don’t slow down and we can find our animals in need the loving families they deserve.

From tomorrow, we are reducing adoption fees for all animals across the country:

• Puppies and kittens have a $99 adoption fee,

• Adult dogs and cats have a $50 adoption fee,

• Small animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits have a $25 adoption fee

• Adoption fees for other animals are available on request.

Adopting an animal will allow centres to continue to provide excellent care and comfort for animals in need, while helping SPCA during this uncertain time. With families likely to be spending lots of time at home, now is an ideal time to adopt.

We are taking all the necessary cleaning and hygiene protocols across all our Centres. Centres will be practicing social distancing, which may mean visitors could be asked to wait in their vehicles before being welcomed into their local centre – please do only visit our centre if you are looking at adopting an animal.

Please SPREAD THE WORD!
For more information on Covid-19 and animals visit our website here: www.spca.nz...

Mayor Phil Goff today announced the temporary closure of libraries and a number of cultural institutions across the city.

The Museum’s Chief Executive Dr David Gaimster said “Auckland Museum is aligned with the Auckland Councils efforts to limit the transmission of the COVID -19 coronavirus. We will close our doors today at 5pm and will review our position regularly as new information from Health Officials comes to hand.”

“This was not an easy decision,” says Gaimster. “Auckland Museum has a role in the community to provide a sense of trust and continuity in times of uncertainty. However for the health and wellbeing for our visitors, our people and communities it has been necessary to make this difficult decision.”

The Museum will continue to operate behind the scenes undertaking the full range of its non-public facing activities such as caring for collections and taonga, research, digital and online initiatives, preparation of exhibitions and development of public programmes, planning and conservation.

Dr. Gaimster says while the Museum building is closed, it can still be visited online.

“Stay in touch with us at aucklandmuseum.com and we’ll keep you informed. Connect with us on our social media channels where we will bring you inspiring stories of our Museum, its collections and people,” he says.

“We don’t know yet when we will be able to re-open our doors, but we look forward to welcoming visitors back when we can,” says Dr. Gaimster.
