Kauri Glen Reserve glulam bridge
From Monday 7 November, work will begin on Stage 3 of the Kauri Glen Reserve track upgrade, which includes a new tree-top high boardwalk and glulam bridge across the gully. This will provide a new connection from Northcote College to Tui Glen Road and Raymond Terrace, with the Tui Glen route being step-free. The bridge itself will be 60m long and 18m high.
The new tracks and boardwalk will be built to a standard to help prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease, which is especially important in this park. The project includes the installation of shoe-cleaning stations at each entrance.
As part of the work, the current track on the gully floor will be decommissioned.
The attached map shows the area that will be closed to the public from 7 November 2022 to 30 June 2023 so that work can take place.
Northcote College have agreed to use the edge of their field for the storage of material and helicopter work. There are expected to be 37 days of helicopter work during the project.
Funded from both the Kaipatiki Local Board's renewal budget and the Natural Environment Targeted Rate.
Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️
First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.
While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.
And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
-
41% Yes - get rid of the clock changes
-
57.2% No, I enjoy it
-
1.8% Other - I'll share below
Don't overthink this riddle...
I have a silver sole
but no feet,
I make my living by bringing the heat.
