Thankyou for your support! Kaipātiki Local Board results now available

John Gillon from

Wow! A huge thankyou to everyone who has given me their support! I have been re-elected to the Kaipātiki Local Board and the Shore Action team has been given a majority on the Board and a strong mandate.
A big congratulations to my Shore Action team mates Danielle Grant, Paula Gillon and Adrian Tyler who have been re-elected! And a warm welcome to Melanie Kenrick who will be a fantastic new board member!

Unfortunately the news is bitter-sweet as our team mate and great friend Anne-Elise Smithson hasn't made it back. This has been a huge shock to us and is a great loss for our team and the Local Board :(

Also congratulations to the other three members of the Local Board - Ann Hartley and newcomers Cindy Schmidt and Andrew Shaw who we are looking forward to getting to know better :)

Below are the Kaipātiki Local Board preliminary results. These include all votes except the special votes, which will be included in the final count on Thursday.

Preliminary Results:
1. John Gillon (Shore Action), 11525 votes
2. Danielle Grant (Shore Action), 11245 votes
3. Paula Gillon (Shore Action), 10135 votes
4. Melanie Kenrick (Shore Action), 9473 votes
5. Cindy Schmidt (Kaipātiki Voice), 9324 votes

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
