Sounds of swingin' 60s on East FM, Saturday arvo...
Happy birthday Auckland, and to celebrate the long Auckland Anniversary Weekend we’ve got a British Invasion Special with guest DJ Vince Collins on tomorrow arvo’s She’ll Be Right on Saturdays Show with PJ Taylor, 3-7pm (NZ time) on East FM.
Vince and I have been planning for months this show focusing on the famous British pop music Invasion of the 1960s and it’s time to spin some of his original records from his amazing vinyl collection.
So, if you’re a fan of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Animals, Yardbirds, The Who, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Dusty Springfield, The Zombies, Lulu, The Hollies, Donovan, Manfred Mann, Cilla Black, Tom Jones, Cream, The Troggs and many more, this is the fab show for you.
Vince saw many of these groups and artists perform in their heyday before arriving to live in NZ, and one of my favourite stories he has is the time he met The Byrds in Los Angeles.
He and his merchant navy mates were cruising around LA in their British street garments - the Beatle boots, the jackets, pants and haircuts, and The Byrds approached them and asked: “Where did they get their clothes?” How about that!
The She’ll Be Right Show with PJ beams out of East FM, East Auckland’s legendary community-powered public service radio station, on 88.1FM and 107.1FM on local frequencies, nationally and globally on www.eastfm.nz... and on app iHeart Radio.
It’s all about the vibe; it’s all about the groove. – PJ

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
