Dance Yourself Happy 2022!

Mari from Cockle Bay

Howick Quick Response Grant funding decisions are in, and we are both grateful and excited to be able to announce that another winter season of Dance Yourself Happy kicks off on Tuesday 26 July, 7–8pm! 💚🕺🎵 🎶💃

We’re also super excited about our new dancing venue in Howick, The Lounge (186 Wellington Street, Howick, Auckland)! If you have attended some of their events in the past, you already know that the venue is more than fitting for Dance Yourself Happy. Linda will make sure water will be available if yours runs out, but the session is strictly alcohol-free, just like before, and The Lounge bar & kitchen will be closed on the night.

Thank you Howick Local Board for deciding to fund Dance Yourself Happy in 2022, and thank you to Manukau Council East of Social Services (MECOSS) and especially Lindsay Upton for continued support.

Come along on 26 July 2022 at 7pm for an hour of exercise in disguise. Your body and soul will thank you :)

FAQ

What is Dance Yourself Happy?
If you love dancing to electronic dance music and hits or you’re feeling a bit blue or just plain sick of being cooped up at home, come to Dance Yourself Happy. Let the dance tunes of 80s, 90s, 00s & beyond work up a sweat while enjoying an hour of healthy me-time and exercise in disguise. There is no choreography to learn and no instructor, just drop in for a casual dance session with like-minded people. Your body and soul will thank you!

Does it cost to get in?
No, it’s free to attend – thanks to funding from Auckland Council and Howick Local Board.

Is this 'dancing in the dark'?
The lighting is minimised for the mood, or there might be some disco lights – we’ll see what The Lounge can do for us and what feels right. You will be joined by like-minded individuals in a non-judgemental setting.

What kind of music can I expect?
We’ll be dancing to electronic dance music and hits from 80s, 90s, 00s and today. Chart toppers, floor-bangers, house, synthpop, techno, Euro-disco, dance-pop, mashups, some pop & rock, the occasional touch of Latin, and much more for a groovy concoction. There won't be any ballroom, waltz, tango and that type of 'traditional' music.

What should I wear & bring?
Wear anything you feel comfortable in, be it track pants, leggings or jeans, but no high heels, please. And bring a water bottle. Water is also supplied by The Lounge in case you forget yours. Do not bring valuables.

Can I bring my kids along?
Kids over 12 are ok to come along, as long as they are under your supervision at all times.

I’ve been to The Lounge before. Can I buy a drink or food there?
No, Dance Yourself Happy is strictly an alcohol-free event and The Lounge bar & kitchen will be closed. Water is available though.

Do I need a Covid-19 vaccine pass to enter?
No, but we of course adhere to the changing requirements set by the government. Please respect other dancers' personal space and do stay at home if you are feeling unwell.

Do I need to wear a mask?
No. Should the situation change due to government requirement, we may pause the sessions because dancing with a mask on is not much fun.

Poll: Should you ask before planting tall shrubs/trees near your property line?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

It may be fine now but in a few years trees can block out light or views for neighbours.

Do you think neighbours should ask before they go ahead and plant these?
