How Community Transport can make a difference!

Lindsay Upton from Manukau East Council of Social Services (MECOSS)

Sometimes we take for granted the freedom to go where we want, when we want.
For those people who no longer drive a car or find it difficult to get-out to do their shopping, the Manukau East Shopping Shuttle transport service helps to re-establish their independence.
It also provides them an opportunity to connect with others while shopping at Pakuranga Plaza or Botany Town Centre.

If you think you would enjoy helping people by chatting with them and helping them to regain the independence they crave, we would love to hear from YOU!

Sometimes you might also be required to lend a steadying hand but you won't be expected to help someone in or out of a wheelchair.
As a volunteer Driver and /or Companion Shopper, you won’t do anything that might put you or the person you’re helping at risk.

Our volunteers are provided with a van and do NOT use their own cars to take people shopping.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?
