Women in labour diverted from Waitākere Hospital amid midwife shortage
Kia ora neighbours, an Auckland maternity ward has been diverting women in labour to another hospital amid a midwife shortage.
On Monday, midwives at Waitākere Hospital’s maternity unit were sent a message warning them the unit was at capacity and to divert expectant mothers to North Shore Hospital, 26km away.
A spokesperson for Health New Zealand Waitematā said there was a shortage of midwives across the country which was impacting hospitals.
