New playground coming to Birkenhead!
Coming to Birkenhead early-to-mid-2022!
The Kaipātiki Local Board has today approved construction of an upgrade to the playground at Nell Fisher Reserve in front of the Birkenhead Library! Thanks to Member Adrian Tyler for his advocacy for this project.
The upgraded playground will include:
* Tunnel under the existing slide
* Mound with raised humps
* In-ground trampoline
* Basket swing (not the you-and-me swing shown, which we will instead consider adding to the Jean Sampson Reserve toddler playground)
* Harmony bells, chimes and a music ball (the library will be able to change the music to suit their programmes)
* Stepping blocks
* Binoculars
* The existing springer and spinner will be kept and relocated.
The current playground is the only playground in the Birkenhead Village Town Centre and was installed when the Birkenhead Library was rebuilt. Unfortunately it was scaled back to a few basic pieces as part of a budget cut at the time. Our hope is that this project will provide a more functional playground and attraction for Birkenhead :)
We will also be looking at a potential stage 2 for this project of a climbable Kompan Bloqx piece to be added in the future.

The Reserve Bank has shared some pretty blunt advice: there’s no such thing as a “safe” job anymore 🛟😑
Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.
We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?
