Chelsea and Island Bay
I've received a number of queries lately about the work at Chelsea Sugar carpark and the number of trucks travelling down Island Bay Road and discharging into the sewage system there. The two are related, and here is an explanation from WaterCare:
"Watercare has been managing a complex issue with the wastewater line which runs through the carpark at Chelsea Sugar. Vacuum trucks were used to contain the wastewater while repairs were made. The wastewater was picked up and discharged into a different part of the network while the repairs were undertaken which is normal practice."
There will be a few more vacuum trucks in Island Bay on Monday. Work at the Chelsea Sugar carpark will pause for the weekend. The carpark is due to be reinstated on Tuesday.

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
