Kauri Kids
Congratulations to our local Kauri Kids whanau who called a public meeting last Wednesday to fight the Mayor's proposal for Auckland Council to exit from providing early learning education. This could mean the closure or commercialisation of 10 Kauri Kids centres, including at Glenfield, Birkdale and Beach Haven.
Paula Gillon, Danielle Grant, Adrian Tyler, Dr Janet Tupou and I rushed to the meeting after a lengthy Kaipātiki Local Board meeting responding to the Mayor's many budget cuts, where we OPPOSED the Mayor's proposal on Kauri Kids and requested that the decision is put out to public consultation instead of being decided by Council staff, which is what is currently proposed.
Councillors will make a decision on Thursday 15 December on whether to allow council staff to proceed, put it out for consultation, or reject the proposal.
