John Gillon from

The replacement Northcote Rd/Ocean View Rd/Lake Rd roundabout is complete, but Piritahi are about to begin work finishing off the pedestrian islands and footpath. The work will be taking place until Monday 21 June. During this time, traffic management will be in place (see below and the attached maps).

* Friday 4th - Thursday 10th June: Reinstatement of footpath & pedestrian islands at the crossing on Lake road by Tonar Street is underway. Please use crossing located near Fraser Ave from Tuesday 8th – Thursday 10th.
* Thursday 10th – Tuesday 15th June: Reinstatement of traffic island Ocean View Road. All turns will be available during this work.
* Wednesday 16th - Monday 21st June: Reinstatement of traffic island on Lake Road. Between 9am-3pm: No right turn available from Ocean View Road onto Lake Road, and no access from Northcote Road to Ocean View road. Please see attached map for alternate route.
Note that all dates are approximate and may be subject to change.

The work includes:
* Removal of existing traffic island asphalt and pavement,
* Reinstatement of the pedestrian island upgrade to improve safety at intersection,
* Kerb re-instatement and concrete infill,
* Installation of new road signs.
During this work, all bus stops on Lake Rd and Ocean View Road will remain open.

Background: Piritahi removed the roundabout and footpath in order to install new water infrastructure to support the large Kāinga Ora development in Northcote.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
