Free talk offered to schools, parent groups and other community groups by Michael Vaughan, Registered Psychologist
Hi there,
I know that many parents are concerned about the effects of excessive screen time on children. In my private practice (based in Browns Bay), this is the issue that parents are asking about most often.
So I decided to look into the research to learn more about the psychological and physical effects of excessive screen time. I'm now ready to share this information with parents, teachers and community groups, including strategies to help parents navigate the tricky screen time issue at home.
If you'd like to arrange an event, I'm offering a free 1hr. presentation (including Q&A) during February and March - thereafter fee negotiable.

Pedestrians were using the roundabout crossings during this time.
In January this year the Northcote MP had a meeting with AT's CEO about local traffic issues in which he found out that no power had been connected to these signals.
Having this information Mayor Brown was emailed asking why the signals were not working after 4 months and the legality of the crossings.
AT acknowledged the Mayoral email ( usual channel as the Mayor has to receive an answer) on 26 January 2024
AT updated 14 February still working on the answer.
Vector installed the power supply to the Raleigh Rd crossing about 2 weeks ago ( the one with the misaligned overhead arm ) which is still not operational.
Question is, why so long before being switched on as it seems system is dysfunctional in the project area?
Were the pedestrian crossings legal as the lights were never commissioned?
If nothing else contacting your MP and Mayor has results of which we are still waiting!

As part of the Mayor's 2023/24 budget cuts, councillors agreed to remove one third of all public rubbish bins from across Auckland.
While it is true that there are some bins that are close together and probably not needed, this decision was purely based on cost-saving rather than whether the bins are actually needed.
Facing this enforced cut, the Kaipātiki Local Board directed staff to not remove bins at park entrances or bus stops. But we will still have bins removed from within parks, town centres and local shopping areas.
Meanwhile, the Local Board has decided to fund some wheelie bins in wooden frames that will replace some of the lost bins in high-use areas of parks (these will be installed at a later date). Hopefully that will help to mitigate some of the loss.
