The Zonta Club of Waimakariri is joining with another Christchurch Zonta Club to raise much needed funds for the Canterbury Zonta Tertiary Education Trust, which provides scholarships for women returning to the workforce. The original monies were raised for the Trust by the first Celebrity Debates held in Christchurch at the Town Hall many years ago, and these now need topping up. As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
