New book shares heart-warming tales of assistance dogs and their owners
Through a series of 41 interviews, the book Friends Indeed tells the stories of dogs helping their human friends when they are most in need.
Author Sue Allison said the relationship between dog and owner had huge mutual benefits, and assistant dogs helped their human stay connected with others.
“Someone might come up and ask about the dog, and it allows a conversation to start, which may not have otherwise happened,’’ she said.
“They are like a portal to kindness.’’
