Hurunui rates rise likely as council predicts $3.3m loss from Hanmer Springs hot pools
A significant loss in projected revenue from the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa means Hurunui ratepayers are likely to face a 3.74 per cent rates rise.
The Hurunui District Council owns the pools complex, and in the past has generated profits to offset its rates.
However, the closure of the facility for two months through coronavirus restrictions has already impacted the council's balance sheet, and the impacts will be ongoing due to a lack of international visitors.
