Waimakariri and Hurunui districts moving to restricted fire season

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

Two Canterbury districts are moving back into a restricted fire season, as conditions change.

From 12am on Friday, the Hurunui and Waimakariri districts will change from a total fire ban to a restricted season.

North Canterbury principal rural fire officer Bruce Janes said the area was still high-risk for fires.

"In particular there are still dangerous conditions around Omihi and Cheviot and not every permit will be automatically granted.

Janes said if people wanted to light a fire, they should go to www.checkitsalright.nz... to check if they need a permit.
