Water quality concerns at ECan-funded swimming holes in Hurunui
Hurunui visitors and residents are now able to make use of four swimming holes, but should check the water quality before jumping in.
Historic swimming holes at Balmoral and the Waiau River were reinstated last summer and have been dug out again for swimmers to enjoy this summer. Both sites have previously recorded high levels of E coli though, so swimmers should check the www.lawa.org.nz... |LAWA website| for the latest water quality information before visiting.
Two new swimming holes have also been created this summer: one at the Waitohi River by the Lake Sumner Rd bridge, and the second at Dog Stream, in the Brooke Dawson reserve in Hanmer Springs. Water quality at both sites is not monitored.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
