Hurunui College students strike against climate change

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

Hurunui College head student Tessa Allen spearheaded a proactive day of action to support the climate change strikes happening across New Zealand.

Department of Conservation endangered species ambassador Nicola Toki spoke to students about the need to be environmental heroes, as well as what climate change means for New Zealand's native species.

Students spent time creating posters, using recycled cardboard, paper and paints and went on to protest outside the school gate.

Principal Stephen Beck said he was very supportive of the efforts of students from across the country in confronting the apathetic attitudes many adults have towards the overwhelming evidence and impact of climate change.

The school is beginning to take its own steps to address the issue. It has started the process of installing solar panels as it hopes to transition away from its dependence on coal boiler heating.

Christmas Spirit

Went to New World Christmas Eve brought some groceries and as I went to pay a
very kind Lady behind me in the queue reached out and paid for my purchase.
The world still has some wonderful people in it even in these troubled times.
