Memorial horse trek for post-traumatic stress ends in Hanmer Springs

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

A memorial horse trek to raise awareness and funds for post-traumatic stress injury has finished in Hanmer Springs.

The trek, A Long Walk Home, took off from St Arnaud in the Nelson Lakes National Park on January 5.

Crossing 110 kilometres of high country station roads, the trek ended in Hanmer on Saturday with a memorial service at the Soldier's Block.

Royal New Zealand Returned and Services' Association Canterbury president Stan Hansen said the trust members and supporters were doing a great job to bring better awareness to PTSI and suicide prevention.

"There was a further need to talk about this thing and try and figure out what we can do to help.
