New swimming holes to be created in the Hurunui district this summer
An old swimming hole enjoyed by generations of North Cantabrians will be restored so a new generation can enjoy it this summer.
The Hurunui Splash project, funded by Environment Canterbury, will dig out and restore the old swimming spot at Balmoral Recreation Reserve, north of the Hurunui River bridge on State Highway 7 - and create three new swimming spots.
The project aims to provide recreational opportunities for visitors and locals, and is already bringing back fond memories for some.
