Thousands from across Canterbury attended the 117th Amberley A&P Show at Amberley Domain on Saturday, but the show committee is looking for new ways of getting people through the gates.

President Peter Greenwood said A&P shows across the country are struggling to get more young people involved.

"We have really good support from businesses and the community, we just need to attract some young blood."

Catherine Keith, chair of the merged association and owner of Mount Brown Estates, says it's hoped wineries can work together to promote the region.

Thanks to all our stall holders and to the small team who have managed to juggle a huge range of tasks leading up to and during the Garage Sale and Market day. A big thank you to everyone who donated goods and thanks also for sponsorship from Ashley School, North Canterbury Engineering, and Marilyn and David Ayers.

At the end of the day the combined total, from site fees, garage sale and very generous donations came to over $800 and is just enough to cover our Insurance costs for this year. That means we can confidently offer the building for hire for weddings, funerals and other ceremonies, concerts and worship meetings!

Thousands of people turned out for this year's Northern A&P Rangiora Show last weekend.

Show secretary Lisa Dooling says final figures are yet to be determined, but this year's show takings are up on last year and feedback from visitors has been fantastic.

"Everything just ran really well. It was a good, fun day," she says.

Dooling says the past few months organising the show were "extremely busy", but she managed to fit in some time to knit and even entered an item in the show.

"I won first prize for a knitted hat. A friend of mine came up to me at the show and told me I'd won, so that was nice. I had planned on entering two things but just ran out of time."
