Community issues simmer in Christchurch suburbs
While rates, chlorination, cycleways, and climate change have been hot topics in this year's Christchurch elections, other important issues have been simmering in neighbourhoods across the city.
Our reporters talked to some residents about what is concerning them in the lead-up to the ballot boxes closing at noon on Saturday. As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
