Akaroa ratepayers to pay $520 in extra rates to help fund new health centre
Each Akaroa ratepayer will pay $130 extra in rates annually for four years to help pay for a new health centre in the Banks Peninsula town.
The approach is a first for Christchurch City Council and could pave the way for other communities to use the method to raise money for facilities.
The money would pay for a $1.3 million council grant to the Akaroa Community Health Trust to help build the $5.9m Akaroa Health Centre.
