'Architectural snobbery' accused of holding back Lyttelton development
Six years after a city council design panel rejected their modern, port-inspired design, a Lyttelton couple have accepted "vanilla architecture" is the only way they can rebuild their home.
In 2012, Ann and Brent Stanaway, wanted to construct a "new and vibrant" building on the site of their former home at the corner of Oxford St and Sumner Rd, rather than a "pastiche" of what the earthquakes destroyed.
But authorities thought the design wasn't a good fit for the heritage town and, after multiple meetings, the couple dropped the idea.

2024 ARTS CANTERBURY ART SHOW
9th - 11th of August more than 80 LOCAL artists will be exhibiting at the 2024 Arts Canterbury Art Show at The Cashmere Club, 50 Colombo Street,Christchurch.
OPENING NIGHT:7pm Friday 9th of August with tickets available from Eventbrite.
