Reserve Bank head of banking Steve Gordon said the 50 fake notes accepted by businesses in a fortnight was much higher than the usual two or three counterfeits a month.
"People need to check notes they receive over the counter using the look, feel, tilt technique," he said. Find out more here.

Crusaders chief executive Colin Mansbridge said seeking the views of those directly affected by the shootings at two mosques on March 15 was not fair while the tragedy was still raw. Fifty worshippers were killed and dozens more injured when a gunman opened fire during afternoon prayers.

The fallen tree hit power lines on Western Valley Rd, near Port Levy, just after 1pm on Thursday, cutting power to more than 5500 homes in Charteris Bay, Church Bay, Diamond Harbour, Governors Bay, Marley Hill and Teddington.
Power was restored to all but 313 customers just before 2.30pm that day. Crews were going door-to-door to check in with those still affected and working to restore power over the weekend.
