Through the Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system, those enrolled can vote for the party they want as well as a local representative.
Why does my MP matter?
The person elected will be the voice for your region in Parliament. If you’re having trouble getting entitlements or dealing with Government departments, they can help. If your community needs funding for certain projects or activities, or there isn’t enough healthcare in the area, the elected MP can step in and help.

Have you heard about our Community Connects grants?
The grants help fund projects that promote the inclusion and contribution of older people in community life, and support communities to prepare for an ageing population.
The fund makes one-off grants of up to $15,000. The grants are open to any New Zealand council, community organisation, or registered non-profit organisation. Applications for our current funding round close on 9 October.
Our last funding round was a huge success and helped fund a range of different projects across the country, that had focuses like reducing loneliness and social isolation of older people, developing an age-friendly community plan and supporting people with dementia.
With the right planning and support, we can create environments where older people are valued, connected and able to participate in their community.

Collett’s Corner will seek public investment from September 23 – two days after opening to current shareholders. The project needs to raise $800,000 to $1.4 million, with shares costing $120 each.
The $14m three-storey, mixed-use development – planned for a 974-square-metre site on the corner of London and Oxford streets – will feature a wellness centre, hospitality outlets and shops on the ground floor, and 20 privately-owned apartments above.
