An 8 week programme of workshops for 7 – 11 year olds devised and hosted by PumpHouse drama teacher Mags Delaney.
As a practitioner, Mags has decades of experience in all aspects of theatrecraft, having worked with many theatre companies both in England and New Zealand, including the Royal Shakespeare Company. For the past decade Mags been part of the production team for Shoreside Theatre’s annual Shakespeare in the Park season held in The PumpHouse Amphitheatre.

Mags’ 30 year career as a primary school teacher has provided her with the experience and expertise to work with children of all levels of ability. She particularly enjoys encouraging children to discover their own unique talent and to share her passion for drama and performance, whether it be on the stage or behind the scenes.

Workshops are held on Mondays after school at The PumpHouse within the venue’s various spaces.
Children learn various performance techniques through movement, improvisation, mime and speech.

This 8 week drama programme also develops and enhances teamwork, social skills, self esteem and confidence.

At the end of the programme the children will have the opportunity to perform for family members.

Week One: for 6 – 11 years, runs from January 16 – 20

Week Two: for 12 – 16 years, runs from January 23 – 27

Each series of workshops features five self-contained days designed to give children the chance to have a go at a variety of drama skills within the unique setting of a working theatre.

Each day will follow a theme and include drama games, exercises and activities to develop the knowledge, confidence and thinking skills of those with an interest in drama and performance arts while they have fun!

The day will close with a chance for the students to present a short performance for parents.

You can enrol your child a place for all 5 days or fewer. NB: a discount is applied for enrolments for all 5 days.

Day 1 Improvisation – a chance to develop team work, confidence and quick thinking whilst having fun telling stories and improvising scenes.

Day 2 Mime, Movement and Finding My Voice - a day of contrasts from storytelling without words to learning how to use different voices for different performance spaces.

Day 3 Scripted Drama – devising, creating, adapting, writing and staging a script – how the actors know what to do and when.

Day 4 Backstage Pass A day ‘backstage’ covering the work of the Technical Crew (light and sound), Wardrobe and Make-Up, and the Stage Manager.

Day 5 ‘PumpHouse Productions Presents a Play in a Day!’ pulling together the skills covered earlier in the week the students work towards a final performance of the week from scratch!

The cost is $50 per day or $225 for all five days.
Numbers limited to 20 students per day.

This year, The PumpHouse’s annual Christmas Carols in the Amphitheatre will feature North Shore Chorale and our fledgling PumpHouse Community Choir.
As the name suggests, the community choir will be made up of locals - that’s you. If the last time you sang in a choir was at school and you fancy another go at it, or if you’re a secret shower singer and would like to share your unappreciated gift with the world then get in touch with us.

Absolutely anyone is welcome to join. You don’t need a trained voice. Our choir leader, Charlotte Nicklin will help you stay in tune. All you need to do is to come to rehearsals for a couple of weeks and be available to sing with the choir on December 18th.
Singing with others has proven health benefits, so it’s actually good for you to join us. Email julia@pumphouse.co.nz for more information.
