Although 19, he has a developmental age like that of preschooler/early primary school children and physical appearance of around 12 yrs. A young family with children of similar ages would be ideal as he loves playing games of this age group (primary school age). This is an amazing opportunity to bring a sense of personal well-being and fulfilment to your life and his. He is looking for a caring, loving, understanding and supportive family and in return he will bring lots of laughs and joy to your household. A placid and gentle person he loves trampolining, bird watching, dancing, music, going to the beach or the park. He loves being outside so a garden that is fenced would be great. He loves days out or just hanging at your place, whichever suits you and your family. He has a unique style of communication using an Ipad to talk, which you can learn to use too. He will need full supervision, and you need to be comfortable with changing nappies. Starting with a monthly/fortnightly weekend day care increasing to overnight respite care once a month or so, giving everyone time to get to know each other. No experience necessary just a kind and caring heart. Mum and dad will be on call if necessary. Potential employees will be subject to reference and police checks.

Support a young person with a disability

Are you empathetic and confident?

A family in Browns Bay on the North Shore are looking for someone to support their 12-year-old daughter after school. For two or three afternoons initially, the role is to do some baking together and help with homework. This cute and curious child loves to ask all the questions and will love to have you there for her support. She loves games, baking and going to the playground and her disability can mean she doesn’t know when it’s time to finish.

She needs reassurance and clear answers to her questions. Your interpersonal skills and strong boundaries mean you are very aware of how you interact with her and guide conversations that won’t get misinterpreted or confused. Structure, consistency and ability to stick to the plan are crucial for success. This may suit a confident mature person with the ability to understand the bigger picture.

Are you up for the challenge to support this young girl to be successful? You will need a full licence and a car. Pay is $30 ph.

A 19yr old man with autism is looking for someone of similar age to hang out with and help him learn some independent skills. Going to places like Motat, go karting, movies, museums, out for lunch, community events the mall are what you’ll be doing. There is so much fun this won’t feel like a job!

He just needs some help with money, finding his way around and learning some life skills (like catching the bus). If you can help this man to learn and practise these skills whilst out having fun, then this could be your dream job. Sometimes you may just be hanging out at home playing Xbox or having a chat.

It is essential you have a car and a full licence. One day at the weekend for 5 or 6 hrs and 3 days per week during the school holidays for 6hrs.

Physically fit

Regular hours in Millwater

A family in Millwater are looking for two people to share this job over the week including weekends to support and spend time with their 16yr old disabled son.

This is a fun job for the right person. Playing games and laughing at the things he laughs at. He loves trucks, lorries, and trains. He loves silliness, people who are bubbly, fun and funny. Supporting this teenager through his after-school routine whilst having fun is a big part of this job.

His cerebral palsy means he needs physical help most of the time. Things like supporting him to walk, transferring him in and out of seating/chairs/getting into bed or the bath. Help to eat and drink and with personal cares. You need to be physically fit and energetic to give him the best support.

Weekends and school holidays will be more focused on trips/days out.

Two staff to work across the week from 3 –5pm after school and one day every second weekend (flexible) each day consisting of 7 hrs of support. More hours during the school holidays similar to weekend hours (7hrs). You will need a car and a full licence.

If you are a passionate caring person who would love to help this teenager get the most out of his afternoons and weekends, then please get in touch. Days of work negotiable.

🌻Are you reliable, engaging and proactive?
🌻Are you looking for meaningful engaging work in Dairy Flat?
🌻Would 12 hour shifts supporting a man with a disability fit into your world?

A friendly, chatty man with a spinal injury is looking for some help throughout his week, especially in the weekends. He needs support workers to work 7am – 7pm and overnight 7pm – 7am and we are hoping that you might be one of those people! When at home he likes to spend his days with his cats and dog, making creations on his computer for screen printing and working on his online sales business.

For this to be the job for you, you need:
- A full NZ drivers licence – to head out to appointments or to get stuff done
- Patience - his injury means he needs to go at a slower pace sometimes
- Interpersonal skills - as he likes to chat with the person supporting him
You get a super gold star if you have some good computer skills, but this one is not essential.
Your role would be to support him getting up and dressed for the day, preparing and helping him to eat his meals, and doing the things his limited mobility prevents him from doing (like typing on the computer and pouring himself a drink). Someone stays awake with him overnight to help him stay comfortable and supported.

All of the shifts are 12 hours long. We especially need people who can work the weekend shifts. We would love to chat if one or a few 12 hour shifts would work in your world. One shift or a full time job, it is up to you.

If this sounds like the job you have been looking for, please email jobs@flyingkites.org.nz or send me a message
