MID-MONTH WEATHER REPORT

Murray from Paraparaumu

Although the temperatures have been almost average at 19.1 degrees, it seems cooler due to the number of cloudy and cool, windy days. However, the dominant weather factor to date has been the lack of rain, with less than 10 mm.

This is the second consecutive cooler than average month, presumably resulting from the El Nino effect, with the statistics telling us that it’s the driest in eight years and coolest in seven.

It seems unlikely November will be a summer month this year, unlike the previous two, and that drought conditions will prevail through summer, despite the MetService having predicted the possibility of showers for just about every day.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
