Our summer services
Mōrena Western Bay,
Just a heads up of what our services look like over the coming summer holiday:
*Library and Service Centres*
All our service centres (Barkes Corner, Katikati, Te Puke, Ōmokoroa and Waihī Beach) will be closed from midday Friday 23 December - Monday 9 January.
*Kerbside Rubbish and Recycling Collections*
Kerbside collections will remain unchanged for most of our District, so carry on putting your bins by out by 7am on your normal day.
If you’ve got a holiday rental, please make sure to let visitors know about pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) tags, where to purchase them and how to attach them correctly. Send them here if you need info: kerbsidecollective.co.nz...
There will be extra collections for holiday hotspots: Waihī Beach, Athenree, Bowentown and Pukehina to help with the holiday overflow. kerbsidecollective.co.nz...
*Recycling Centres*
Our recycling and greenwaste centres may have different opening hours and days to usual over the holiday period, so make sure to check hours below before you go!
There will also be excess glass drop-off at Ōmokoroa Greenwaste Centre to help make the big holiday glass recycling easier! These bins will be available every Wednesday and Saturday, 2pm to 4pm from 21 December to 28 January (excluding Saturday 24 December).
Sustainabox and Recyclasaurus Rex (our mobile recycling trailers) will finish up on Saturday 17 December, 9am to 1pm at Te Ranga School and start up again on Saturday 7 January at Omanawa Hall and BP Pongakawa, 9am to 1pm.
*Building and Resource Consents – clock stops*
Our teams will work as hard as possible to process your consent applications! But just know that the period from Tuesday 20 December through to Tuesday 10 January is excluded from the 20-working-day statutory timeframe for building consents, code of compliance certificates and resource consents - so any applications submitted on or after Tuesday 20 December may not begin to be processed until after 10 January.

Time to Tickle Your Thinker 🧠
If a zookeeper had 100 pairs of animals in her zoo, and two pairs of babies are born for each one of the original animals, then (sadly) 23 animals don’t survive, how many animals do you have left in total?

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?
The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.
Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.
We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?
-
9.6% For. Self-service is less frustrating and convenient.
-
43.2% I want to be able to choose.
-
47.2% Against. I want to deal with people.
