Fundraising event in West Melton raises thousands for men's health

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

West Melton locals raised just over $11,000 for Blue September – the Prostate Foundation at a special dinner held in conjunction with Melton Estate Winery last Saturday.

Guest speaker Mark Inglis, an ambassador for the foundation, and local Christchurch band Mama Rock entertained the sell-out crowd, while raffles and silent auctions – with products and services donated by local businesses – helped raise further funds for the cause.

According to the Prostate Foundation, more than 4000 Kiwi men are diagnosed with the disease each year.

Co-organiser Hayley Knight said the fundraising event was a “complete success”, with “lots of laughs, great food and wine and an awesome bands”.

Donations can still be made online at

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
