Reserve Management Plans
Hastings parks and reserves plans: don't forget to have your say by April 23!
Eskdale and Frimley parks are each getting new 10-year Reserve Management Plans, while the Tainui, Tanner, Tauroa and Hikanui plan is being reviewed. This first stage of consultation takes a wide look at the various community perspectives, concerns and ideas, to help us understand how the parks and reserves are currently used, valued and your thoughts for their future. A report will be presented to the public so we can go over the findings together. This will feed into the next stage of the planning process, which will involve further public consultation.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.

New neighbour
Okay folks, if you feed your animals outside, you might want to rethink that. We have new nocturnal neighbours, inside Havelock North.
There is a very well fed brush tail possum up the pōhutukawa tree in my garden.
I don’t know where it’s come in from, but it’s in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, so keep an eye on your pet doors, open windows and doors and pet food.
I’ll be notifying council and DOC tomorrow.
