BestStart Paraparaumu Kakapo adoption.

Rita from Raumati Beach

Last year BestStart Paraparaumu made a decision to fundraise for the adoption of a Kakapo. The journey took longer than anyone could have predicted with the effects of covid19 and lockdown. However, we have finally made it! We are so proud of our community support in our venture from BestStart Paraparaumu whanau, parents, caregivers, teachers and tamariki, to Mitre10 Kapiti, and the awesome talent and mahi from one of our artistic parents.
Thank you all so much!
In our reception area at BestStart Paraparaumu we have displayed our journey. Tamariki have learned about a native treasure to Aotearoa NZ. Mahi tahi - working together from the beginning by creating a collection box, gathering materials, developing leadership skills, creativity in art; mathematics, including counting and creating a bar chart to measure how far we have come, and how far we need to go to reach our goal. Tamariki have done baking, developing real life skills and finally encourage others to donate for our whanau evening and a wonderful kaiako to be slimed!

We also have our gorgeous painting displayed proudly in our car park of a kakapo whanau.
