Residents mount online opposition to proposed quarry near Rangiora Racecourse
Taggart Earthmoving Ltd currently extracts gravel from the Ashley River, and transports it to its depot on Cones Rd.
The company wants to move its extraction operation to the racecourse, which is closer to Cones Rd and will reduce wear and tear on the council's roading infrastructure, and provide revenue for the racecourse.
An online petition against the proposal raised 2500 signatures in a week, with residents saying a quarry would devalue their houses by creating noise, dust, odour and breathing issues.
