Magpies in Stafford Park

Dave from Northcote Point

I finally reached the limit of my tolerance the other day after being dive-bombed and harassed by magpies for the last few months on my daily walk through Stafford Park and Denby Lane. I have laid a complaint with the Auckland Council asking them to rectify this situation. If you have experienced similar behaviour from these birds I would ask you do the same as I am sure they won't act unless there is a number of complaints. To be clear, I am minding my own business walking on the footpath and in no way antagonising or provoking the birds (group of about six). I have tried everything but as soon as they see me they chase/dive-bomb me. I know others have had a similar experience which could be quite frightening I'm sure to some people as the birds will often pursue me for hundreds of metres until breaking off. One day they will cause an accident as some frightened person/child will step out or cycle into oncoming traffic and be run over.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
