Hearts to Help

Kim Thompson from

Do you know about the Western Loneliness Epidemic? Social distancing and isolating although necessary, has the potential to exacerbate the loneliness epidemic. Not only for the elderly, but those of all ages.

Some studies liken the health effect of loneliness to the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day. We need to take care of our physical and mental health. Taking care of our wellness and well being is paramount during these unprecedented times and beyond.

Some will say we won the birth lottery, as most of us haven't had to live through the Spanish Flu, World Wars or the Holocaust. If we intelligently navigate through Covid-19 we're going to see, coming out of it, the second half of 2020, a society where people are more compassionate, empathetic and kinder to one another. Covid-19 is a global pandemic that has touched everyone around the world in one way or another. It has leveled the playing field. Now more than ever we need each other and should lean on each other for help and support when needed.

Covid-19 is a gift that's badly wrapped. I think perhaps we're slowly realizing that we've got a life that's a lot better than we thought we did.

Staying positive is a deliberate choice. We should choose optimism because it's a choice that we have the privilege to make.

Stay safe, be kind and reach out if you need help or support.

Kindest regards,
Kim & Team JEPC
