Freedom camping
Working with Bay of Plenty Civil Defence, Bay of Plenty & Taupo Police and Western Bay of Plenty District Council we have created three freedom camping sites for those in self-contained vehicles who are not currently in lockdown at a campground.
All freedom camping locations are now closed and this will be enforced by the Bay of Plenty & Taupo Police.
Those in self-contained vehicles need to relocate to one of the following three sites:
Tauranga – Marine Park at Sulphur Point
Te Puke – Commerce Lane car park
Katikati – Uretara Domain

Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
.
Do you think NZ should follow suit? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts below.
